The 2015 walking festival is now being created and should be ready around mid-January time.
The walks showing are last years, please do not book onto them.
The festival dates have moved forwards again to keep the Bank holiday weekend within the festival. So it now starts on the Bank Holiday in the Ilfracombe area, as before, the festival is there for 2 days before moving on to Lynton for another two days. It then moves on to Porlock for 2 days and finally to Dunster for the last three days.
We now have Walkers are Welcome Towns at Ilfracombe, Lynton and Lynmouth, Porlock and Dunster. To find out more about this accreditation go to the Walker are Welcome website.
To help keeps costs down for the festival many of the guides are offering their services for free or ‘in kind’. This has enabled us to keep the festival going and I am most grateful to those guides.
I would like to thank all our guides, wardens and rangers for their continued support. The festival would not be able to continue without support from the Exmoor National Park, the National Trust and the Crown Estate Dunster. Our supporters and advertisers also make the difference between the festival running or stopping. And of course your support makes it worthwhile for us all.
Some of you may already know my involvement with the South West Coast Path Association. In 2013 the Great South West Walk helped raise £640,000 for improvements to the coast path. In 2014 we are continuing that great success with 100 circular walks based on the National Trail. These will be like lots of small walking festivals around the south west peninsula. This is to raise at least £250,000 towards the improvement of this great National Trail. If you would like to get involved between 20-28 September 2014 go to the Great South West Walks website or follow us on Twitter @LoveSWCoastPath.
I hope you find some walks that suit your ability and you enjoy coming to our walking festival.
PS If you find you cannot make the festival, I have written a selection of walks booklets that take in some previous festival walks. I have also written some picnic spots booklets and cycle rides which might be of interest. Go to www.combewalks.com for more details of the booklets.
