Welcome to the Spring Walking Festival with lots of new walks to try out.

Starting in the Ilfracombe area, as last year, the festival is there for 2 days before moving on to Lynton for another two days. It then moves on to Porlock for 3 days and finally to Dunster for the last three days over the May Day Bank holiday.

This festival has 41 guided walks to choose from. We are starting each area with a 'Welcome Evening' which is a simple get-together in a local pub to meet the guides - and me!

We now have Walkers are Welcome Towns at Ilfracombe, Lynton and Lynmouth, Porlock and Dunster. To find out more about this accreditation go to the Walker are Welcome website.

To help keeps costs down for the festival many of the guides are offering their services for free or ‘in kind’. This has enabled us to keep the festival going and I am most grateful to those guides.

I would like to thank all our guides, wardens and rangers for their continued support. The festival would not be able to continue without support from the Exmoor National Park, the National Trust and the Crown Estate Dunster. Our supporters and advertisers also make the difference between the festival running or stopping. And of course your support makes it worthwhile for us all.

I hope you find some walks that suit your ability and you enjoy coming to our walking festival.

Best wishes

PS If you find you cannot make the festival, I have written a selection of walks booklets that take in some previous festival walks. I have also written some picnic spots booklets and cycle rides which might be of interest. Go to www.combewalks.com for more details of the booklets.

Great South West WalkSome of you may already know my involvement with the South West Coast Path Association. In 2013 we are celebrating our 40th anniversary with a relay walk of the whole 630 miles over April and May. This is to raise at least £250,000 for the improvement of this great National Trail. If you would like to get involved go to Great South West Walk website.
